explore the best dance clubs in vienna

When you get tired of absorbing all of Vienna's culture during the day, make sure to blend into the club scene during the night. Vienna has one of the best parties in Europe, especially when it comes to electronic music. A variety of genres can be found, from underground to chic, and many of the clubs already got a cult status for their reputation. On top of that, the easiest part is reaching them once you land via several Wien-Schwechat Airport transfer options. Inspired by the Viennese nocturnal dance culture, we propose the top dance clubs to visit.

Flex Club

Notorious for its hard partiers, the Flex Club is truly a legend. Conveniently sitting at Augartenbrücke 1, this hotspot is one of the oldest venues in Vienna (20 years that is!). Known for its dark and grimy interior, this underground party club is still there to attract the top international music acts and is guaranteed to leave you with memory blanks. You can divide your time here between the Flex Café where you can enjoy some ambient electro music or catch a live gig on their small performance stage. But inside the club, you can witness a variety of ear-drum-blasting electronic music genres, urging you to dance all night long. The Flex Club also hosts small gigs by indie rock, rap and hip-hop performers, promising a truly avant-garde experience.

If you’re one of those people in search of a warm-up, you can hang in their outdoor bench seats and mentally prepare to jump all night. It is pretty common to leave the club the next morning at sunrise, trying to catch a taxi service to home while giggling with your party-mates. If you’re up for some serious partying, Flex Club is your place.

Pratersauna Club

The most legendary night club in Vienna is sitting inside an old sauna and ‘60s swinger club on Waldsteingartenstraße 135. Born in 2009 and renovated in 2016, the Pratersauna Club is made of few floors with a variety of electronic, techno and house programs. Having an amazingly designed outdoor space, this club features a garden pool to hang around during the summer. Having the club’s history in mind, this spot attracts some of the trendiest DJs from the electro music world.

If you and your friend are up for a long night of dancing, drinking and giving into the beats of music, while chatting away with new people and taking part in strange situations, pop-in to the Pratersauna Club for a truly unique experience.

Elektro Gönner Club

Located in a passage on Mariahilfer Straße 101, the Elektro Gönner Club offers both indoor and outdoor area. It’s actually placed inside an old electrical shop and was founded by architects, doubling as a space for art installations and exhibitions. It’s divided into a lounge for intimate conversations, a bar area, a dancefloor and a courtyard just outside, making the place adaptable to your mood. If you get a little hungry, a variety of snacks are available, from vegetarian toast, peanuts, chips or Haribo.

The music here varies, but usually there’s a program of DJs performing electronic music, like house, techno, electronica, wave and similar, but the place also offers genres such as experimental and avant-garde music performed mainly on Sundays. So, depending on the day of the week and your current mood, here you can hit the dancefloor, stand at the bar to chat with new faces or simply go out and catch a breath in the courtyard.

Celeste Club

Starting off as a wine bar and concert venue that hosted private parties few years ago, the Hamburgerstraße 18 situated Celeste Club is today renovated and grown into one of the most famous nightclubs in Vienna. Not labeling itself as solely a nightclub, the Celeste Club offers a variety of activities, ranging from great food and wine, art in the gallery space and clubbing to crazy electro-tunes performed by some of the hottest world DJs. Being one of the most genre versatile nightclubs in Vienna, the Celeste guarantees that your night will fly by between the dancefloor, the bar and their outside area for a smoke or a breath of fresh air. For all of the party-goers craving to meet great and unusual people, dance at electronic tunes all night and sip their drink while laughing and enjoying their youth, the Celeste is here to warmly embrace them until daylight. What’s even better, you can catch your Wien-Schwechat Airport taxi in Vienna right after.

The Loft Club

Placed on Lerchenfeldergürtel 37, the Loft is a pretty new club. Coming only as an indoor venue, the interior is simple and yet stylish, with some seriously diverse visitors. Being just opposite from the Gürtel clubs it is very easy to hop in-and-out of the lined venues. Their free entry bar at the front is open all night, so you can warm-up before entering the club.

There are two main floors with their own bars. One is placed upstairs and the other in the basement, and depending on the evening the entry fee varies. The typical DJ line-up during the weekends features electronic music, however here you can also stumble upon a wide range of house, rock and hip-hop parties and even student gatherings and film nights. The Loft guarantees that you’ll remain “stuck” on their dancefloor. But even if you are looking for more diversity in one night, you can leave and visit some of the others the Gürtel bars and clubs. For the adventurers looking for an unpredictable night out, The Loft Club is the place to be.

Grelle Forelle Club

If extreme partying is your thing, then remember the name Grelle Forelle Club at Spittelauer Lände 12, a home of some of the longest and hardest parties. It’s so extreme that taking photos or videos in this club is prohibited, allowing the night visitors to completely lower their inhibitions, become one with the beat and endorse the mysteriousness of the place. The music genres on the menu here vary from dubstep, techno, minimal and house, luring the most popular international DJs. At times, live concert events can be also seen.

This indoor club is dark, the crowd is sweaty and unusual sights are common. Chatting or making out with strangers is really normal here and losing the sense of time (and bits of memory of the night) happens regularly.

Navigating your way around Vienna is fairly easy by using the taxi companies, limousine rental services or even minivans rentals, so make sure to prepare well and not to miss on the fun.
